Wow! The sixth day must have been exciting. Think of the fun God had creating every kind of animal in existence. But was a day twenty-four hours, or did he make and then let evolution take over? Did he draw up his plans, decide when the animal would exist, and then wait?
What about dinosaurs? Did God create dinosaurs at the same time he made the other animals? Moses wrote the first five books of our Bible under the influence of God. Moses did not know about dinosaurs, but he did write about a behemoth. Could the behemoth have been a dinosaur? What about a leviathan? Many scholars puzzle over those two words—were they mythical creatures or dinosaurs?
Scientists consider evolution and creationism theories. Christians believe God created everything but have no idea how God did it or how long it took. As a matter of fact, at the birth of each animal, God is still creating.
Robert Plot found the first dinosaur bone in 1677. William Buckland found a similar fossil and concluded it was an ancient carnivorous lizard called “Megalosaurus.” While taking a stroll in Sussex, England, in 1822, Mary Ann Mantell collected a “fossil reptile” and named it “Iguanodon.” Finally, in 1842, Sir Richard Owen called the fossils “Dinosauria,” meaning terrible lizard. After so many discoveries, we know dinosaurs existed, but did God make them?
Christians believe God did. Everything came from his word. Genesis 1:1 In the beginning, God created the heavens and the earth. There is no point in arguing over this fact. There is a God who created everything. The argument is how and when he did this creating.
Prayer: Thank you, Lord, for creating my world. Thank you for allowing us to discover different aspects of this world through science. Please help us understand your creations without bickering over trivial matters. In Jesus’ name, I pray.
