Anyone interested in acquiring new experiences and reflecting upon the process can gain wisdom. By learning as much as we can, analyzing our experiences, and putting our knowledge to the test, we become wise people. Wisdom mentioned 215 times in the New International Version of the Holy Bible is portrayed by King Solomon in the Book of Proverbs as a woman whose understanding is more profitable than silver and yields better returns than gold. True wisdom is a virtue we all need.
Jesus spoke of wisdom. He said, “Wisdom is proved right by her actions.” What did He mean? We have a saying, “Do not judge a book by its cover.” Jesus taught the wisdom of God, which is the way to repentance and salvation. John the Baptist taught salvation; Ministers teach salvation, so does the bum in the street. Wisdom is proved right by her actions. Only actions matter, not the person who tells of those actions.
Paul’s letter to the Ephesians circulated among many churches in the area and became part of the New Testament canon by about 150 AD. Ephesus, an ancient Greek city in today’s Turkey, played an essential role in the spread of Christianity. In these letters, Paul reminds the Christians in Ephesus of the wisdom of Jesus Christ and asks God to grant them the spirit of wisdom and revelation so that they may know God better. Paul asks the Lord to enlighten their hearts to see the hope, richness, power, and the inheritance of the mighty strength in their faith. So, we today need to search the scripture, pray for guidance and wisdom, and discernment. Others may present their version of the truth, but only God has the absolute truth.
Prayer: Thank you, Lord, for your salvation through your Son, Jesus Christ. I ask for your grace and wisdom in discerning right from wrong, truth from untruth. Help those caught up in various cult religions hear the truth and turn toward your light. In Jesus’ name, I pray.
